                                Virginia Merdian

CLINTON — Virginia A. “Ginger” Merdian, 76, of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Clinton, from complications following a stroke. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 2, at Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass on Friday at the church. Her grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is assisting the family.
Ginger was born in Long Island, New York, on June 11, 1935, the daughter of Edward and Gladys (Haller) Wickham. She graduated from Kewanee High School, Kewanee, Ill., and received a B.A Degree in Education from Marycrest College in 1957. Ginger married Jack Merdian on August 17, 1957, in Kewanee. Ginger taught school in Garden Plain, and later at St. Mary’s Grade School and St. Patrick’s Grade School and was a substitute with the Clinton School System. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Fulton Country Club, and the AMVETS. She was a volunteer with Mobile Meals and a breast cancer survivor. Ginger enjoyed her family and friends, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles.
Ginger is survived by her husband Jack; four children, Coleen (David) Koranda, and their children, Katelyn and Isabella of Davenport, Lynne (Joe) Shovlain and their children, Steven, Jackie and Shannon of Clinton, Mike (Renee) Merdian and their children, Brittany (her husband Brian Winkel) and Jennifer of Clinton, and Mark (Stefanie) Merdian and their son Justin of Boone, Iowa; and two sisters, Diane Wickham and Judy Wickham, both of Kenmore, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert.
